annquinn I love this album, it's so deeply atmospheric and full of haunting imagery of train journeys, abandoned industrial estates, nocturnal adventures and many deep emotions of being alive in this world. This album energises my work as I paint in my studio.

Nate Collins To call 'Thrill and Bruit' "immersive" would be to greatly understate how utterly impactful it is. There are moments on this album that are so deeply unsettling that I can only compare them to the later stages of The Caretaker's 'Everywhere at the End of Time' suite. I'm beyond blown away by this album.

RE / VEIDRIK / Odious Wretch I have come back to this album repeatedly over the last few months and each time it has managed to transport me away to a strange yet familiar headspace. Intensely personal subject matter underpins the work but it doesn't impose itself on the listener, and instead leaves space to reflect and conjure demons in their own image. I only wish it were longer but brevity works in its favor by inviting repeat listens, each unique depending on what you bring of yourself into the experience.

When you slide your fingertips over the site you should feel a gentle vibration, which is called a “thrill.” Another sign is when listening with a stethoscope a loud swishing noise will be heard called a “bruit.” If both of these signs are present and normal, the Fistula is in good condition.

Thrill and Bruit (pronounced broo-ee)

Exactly two years ago, I was recovering from a successful kidney transplant. Thrill and Bruit explores the beginning of this period from the sudden diagnosis on into the strict regime of dialysis and drastic lifestyle changes for the next four years.

Over the course of treatment, I was able to draw and take some phone recordings, these became the genesis of Thrill and Bruit.
I scanned many of these drawings and imported them into sonification software. The resulting sounds were manipulated in Audacity & Ableton as were the early and more recent field recordings.

For Thrill and Bruit, I wanted to emulate the sense of disorientation, uncertainty and fear I felt from the outset. In terms of genres, this release is a mix of field recording, machine-ambient and a concept album! The tracks range from raw field recordings to industrial/machine ambient and dark soundscapes.
A challenging listen in many respects, but I wanted Thrill and Bruit to echo an extremely unsettling and traumatic time.

Thrill and Bruit will be the first release in a trilogy, the rest of which will be released over the Autumn, followed, hopefully by a physical /special edition release. Any monies from sales will go towards this release.
