Whilst producing the trilogy of Thrill and Bruit, Limen & Alight (2020 to 2022) I was working on another series of tracks, which I now have released as Jaunt.
The last six years have been a very tiring and unpleasant journey, I see Jaunt as an overview of that period. During this time, I took the bus and train regularly and most of the field recordings were taken on public transport and in stations around Ireland.
Throughout Jaunt there is something of 'the night', being surrounded by darkness (and the unknown), getting up before dawn and returning
home well after sunset from college/work placement and treatment.
I also slept a good deal on these journeys, some of the recordings are from my dream 'journals' (Dictaphone and mobile phone voice recorder) during the same time period. Some of the same recordings were used on a few of the tracks from the trilogy. I had intended to release Jaunt along with Alight, but thought it merited its own release. The first half is disquieting compared to the second half, where the edginess gives way to a more languid pace and mellower atmosphere, though still with a hint of darkness! The cover photo was taken either after dawn on the Limerick Junction route or at before dusk on the return (Cork) train.

Recently as I was searching for words for the release name,
I came across 'jaunt'. Its origins struck a chord with me:
jaunt (noun) a short excursion or journey made for pleasure,
archaic: A wearisome or tiresome journey (1590s), from jaunt (v).
